Adam Saks has become a significant artistic statement at Galerie Moderne Silkeborg, and I greatly appreciate it. Nature has its seasons and layers like deposits. The artists we have exhibited over the years are the gallery’s natural layers. Adam Saks is now such a mature plant in the gallery’s growth room.
In his latest paintings and papers, Adam Saks delves into the world of potsherds, a passion he shares with one of the finest artists around 1900, Thorvald Bindesbøll. Bindesbøll used to collect potsherds that he found around the ramparts in Copenhagen, drawing inspiration and reflection from them. Adam, in his text, echoes this same passion, inviting us to explore this unique artistic connection.
A potsherd is something that once was different—a fragment. I experience Adam Saks’ new images as poignant attempts to assemble a reality that many today perceive as shattered and needing a summary and clarity. Art, when it is severe, knows how to divide and construct reality. In Adam Saks’ new images, there is a beautiful transformation between past and present, between fracture and unity. My colleagues and I look forward to joining the artist for the opening and beginning of a new spring.
My very best,
Henrik Omme
Galerie Moderne Silkeborg has published and disseminated graphic works for many decades. Over the years, we have presented our audience with many exciting releases produced in collaboration with artists such as Asger Jorn, Pierre Alechinsky, Karel Appel, Egill Jacobsen, and Peter Brandes, to name a few.
The dissemination of graphic works has always been an essential part of the gallery’s DNA. We primarily showcase Danish but also international artists, leveraging our exceptional knowledge of the CoBrA group’s artists to present numerous releases.
In addition to our annual exhibition program, the gallery is a widely utilized partner in facilitating external exhibitions. Exhibitions outside the gallery space always collaborate with museums, cultural institutions, smaller exhibition venues, and art associations within and outside Denmark’s borders. It can be a solo exhibition featuring one artist or a group/theme exhibition involving multiple artists.
